My Favorite Books for Infants

Sunday, April 7, 2019
It's pretty well-known among my friends that I'm a book nerd. I read everything - from Reader's Digest {yes, it's totally my favorite magazine!} to books from the NY Bestsellers List and everything in between.

Being a book nerd and a teacher, I am a HUGE proponent of early literacy. Kids need to see their parents read and be fluent models to grow as little readers of their own. A recent study published in Pediatrics found that toddlers interacted more with print books than eBooks. So having a print-rich baby library can definitely contribute to your child's future success.

Once I found out I was pregnant, I started buying up books left & right to start building up Luke's library. For my baby shower, my cousin suggested guests bring a children's book in lieu of a card and include an inscription inside the front cover so I could read it to the baby when we read that book. How fun is that?! Needless to say, Luke has a pretty great library to start with!

The bookshelf is my favorite part of Luke's room.
Every few weeks I swap out books from another box we have in his closet filled with new titles!
Check out a few of our current faves!

The Pout-Pout Fish

JB's absolute favorite book to read to Luke is The Pout-Pout Fish! It's so incredible to listen to him read to Luke. This book is so catchy and I swear Luke giggles when they read it!

We've expanded our Pout-Pout Fish library to include

Counting Animals Soft Book

We got this soft book as a gift from a family friend who mentioned that it was their granddaughter's favorite book. Seriously, this IS Luke's favorite book! It has high-contrast colors, crinkly pages, rattling sounds, and more!

He loves to eat read it!

Amazing Babies: Do You Want to Play?

This book is another favorite of Luke's! There are different textures, bright colors and Luke's favorite - a mirror! Kids are such narcissists, right?

He will happily sit in his Giraffe chair and "read" while I cook dinner or run around the house doing other things! This chair is perfect for this age because he's not strong enough to hold himself up {and his legs are too fat for the Bumbo - ha!}

Indestructibles

I want to meet the genius who thought of Indestructibles! You guys...they really ARE indestructible! My dad bought Luke a few on a trip to Canada and once I saw how incredible they really are, I scooped up several to stuff in our cars, diaper bag, and all around the house!

Baby Peekaboo is a big hit!

What are your favorite books to read with your little one?
